Boys & Girls Club golf benefit

Boys & Girls Club Big Island will hold its ninth annual Tee Off for Kids Golf Tournament Fundraiser on Aug. 8 at Mauna Lani Bay South Course.

The youth development organization is asking participants to become a sponsor, play in the tournament, contribute in-kind prizes, monetary donations or volunteer their time

Gold-level sponsors and up are invited to pretournament golfing at Kohanaiki and a pupus and cocktail party Aug. 7.

Richardson swim returns

After a one-year absence, the Richardson Roughwater Swim is back.

The 28th edition of the 1-mile race at Richardson Ocean Park in Hilo will be held July 26.

The race was abruptly cancelled last year. Register by July 17 at a fee of $15, or $25 afterward.

Entry forms are available at all County of Hawaii swimming pools and the recreation office within Aunty Sally Kaleohano’s Lū‘au Hale at 799 Pi‘ilani St. in Hilo.

Waiakea football meeting

There will be a meeting for the parents of students interested in participating in football at Waiakea High School on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Waiakea High School Cafeteria.

On the agenda will be tryout schedule and requirements, preseason schedule, season expenses, and concession planning. For more information, call athletic director Tom Correa at 974-4830.

Keaau High School holding cheer tryouts

Keaau High School will be holding cheer tryouts and conditioning July 27-30 at the gym from 3:30-5:30pm. Come prepared with comfortable sneakers, shorts, shirt and athletic wear. A valid physical must be on file with the Athletic Office prior to participation. For more information call the Athletic Office at 313-3450.

The Greg Cameron Firemen’s Fund weekend

The Greg Cameron Firemen’s Fund is a charity organization with the mission to provide financial support to Hawaii Fire Department employees who face injury or prolonged illness.

The third annual Firemen’s Fund Weekend will include a Charity Golf Tournament on Aug. 1, and a Fun Run and Swim on Aug. 2. The course is a 400-meter swim and 1-mile beach run.

There will also be a keiki race — ages 7-10 will do a short course and ages 11-14 the long course.

Konawaena fall sports meetings

Konawaena High School’s fall sports parent’s meeting will be held July 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria on campus. This meeting is mandatory for the parents of all those student athletes wishing to participate in a fall sport. Parents are encouraged to complete a parental consent form and make sure each of the student athletes have a current physical exam on file. All forms are available from the athletic office, the office of the vice principal or the athletic training office.

In addition to the meeting, the athletic department is presenting a presentation from the Positive Coaching Alliance, led by Jeanne Garcia the Alliance executive director and former Punahou School athletic director.

Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament Fishes for Volunteers

The Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament is looking for volunteers to help with the running of the 56th annual Tournament. Volunteers are needed Aug. 6 through Aug. 16 for a variety of tournament support, including Kailua pier operations, pre and post tournament setup and breakdown, HIBT retail boutique, headquarter administration, security and a whole lot more. Positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each volunteer will receive a HIBT t-shirt and discounted parking for shift volunteers in return for their time.

HIBT event headquarters, retail and tournament control will be anchored at Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, located adjacent to Kailua Pier. 2015 HIBT is set to begin Aug. 9 through Aug. 15.

Waimea Athletics to hold fall sport registration

Waimea youth can register for the following sports:

Biddy Basketball (Ages 5-6/7-8): July 27 – Aug.. 12

Age-group volleyball (Ages 9-10/11-12/13-14): Aug. 24 – Sept. 10

Boys Basketball (Ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14): Nov. 23 – Dec. 10

Konawaena Gridiron Golf Tournament

The Konawaena Gridiron Golf Tournament will be held July 19.

The format is two-man scramble. Entry Fee is $120 per person, which includes golf with cart, lunch and prizes. The tournament will start at 8 a.m. (shotgun), registration begins at 7 a.m.

Huggo’s Wahine Fishing Tournament

This year, Huggo’s Wahine Tournament celebrates 20 years of tournament fun, sun and great fishing along the Kona Coast. The tournament will be held July 25. Entry fee is $400 per team (includes four anglers, captain and crew). Entries are limited to the first 75 teams.

The Kealakehe Waveriders are seeking a bowling coach.

Konawaena looking for wrestling coach

Wally Nakashima has retired from his position after many outstanding seasons as the head coach. Nakashima had been associated with Wildcat Wrestling for over twenty years and led Konawaena to multiple championship seasons as the head coach.

Those interested in applying are encouraged to contact the athletic office and request and application for the position. The position will remain open until filled and preference will be given to those applicants who apply before July 22.

Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament August 21-23

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation invites anglers to register for the 19th annual Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament that will be held August 21-23.

Completed registration forms must be turned in to the Department’s Recreation Division office at 799 Pi‘ilani Street in Hilo or postmarked by Friday, July 31. Registration forms, along with tournament rules, are available at County Parks and Recreation facilities island-wide, S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo and J. Hara Store in Kurtistown. The forms also can be found online at hawaiicounty.gov/parks-and-recreation/.

Weigh-ins will be conducted from noon until 1:30 p.m. on August 23, at Honokaa Gymnasium.

Separate divisions are offered for keiki 5-12 years old, teens, men, women, kupuna at least 55 years old, and ohana or families. There also will be a barbless circle hook challenge. Entry fee is either $25 or $30 per person or family, depending on the division entered. Please make checks payable to County of Hawaii Director of Finance.
